The US and UK are currently still in the discussion stages for regulation in AI. Therefore, developing ethical guidelines and standards in your company is crucial to ensure responsible AI development, deployment, and usage.

This includes addressing algorithmic transparency, fairness, accountability, privacy, and the avoidance of bias and discrimination, for example in algorithms. By establishing robust ethical frameworks, the perspective aims to foster trust and promote AI technologies that prioritize human well-being.

2. Collaborative Research and Development

Collaborative research and development, prioritizing synergy over competition, along with open-source technology and data sharing, have become crucial for addressing climate change, biodiversity conservation, and water management challenges. Initiatives such as the Open Data movement (Open Knowledge Foundation), the GBIF: The Global Biodiversity Information Facility, and collaborative research networks like Future Earth promote knowledge sharing and foster collective efforts in tackling these critical environmental issues.

3. Sustainable AI Commercialization

Encouraging the development of AI industries and businesses that prioritize environmental sustainability, social impact, and ethical practices is essential. The carbon emissions of training an AI model is 626,000 pounds—nearly five times the lifetime emissions of the average American car, but leveraging AI for clean distributed energy grids, precision agriculture, and sustainable supply chains could reduce emissions long term.

The latest report from the World Economic Forum highlights the potential of artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) to transform healthcare. However, it emphasizes the need for multilateral stakeholder cooperation to unite around a common vision for attainable solutions that can build trust and confidence in the use of AI. The report identifies key drivers for AI adoption in healthcare, including the exponential growth of medical data, healthcare provider shortages, and advances in AI technology capabilities.
